Everglades
Ecotours
"So, who is this Capt. Matt Johnson and why should we go with
his ecotour?"
Who Is Capt. Matt? I'll tell you, I'm a former high school science
teacher (Biology & Environmental Science) who loves teaching
almost as much as I love nature. I moved to southwest Florida
so I could be closer to my favorite ecosystems of the mangrove
forests and coastal estuaries, and be close to the amazing
Everglades National Park. One of the projects my classes would
do was a research project and multimedia presentation about
ecotourism. Well, it was great fun for the students and even
more fun for me! The students were aware of my ties to nature
and most knew of my passion for sailing and boating and many
times over the years I was asked "So, Mr. Johnson, why aren't
you involved with ecotourism and nature tours instead of being
here in school with us?" My standard answer would be "I can't
do that, I love teaching too much" and it was the truth. Then it
hit me, I could provide awesome tours, share the wilderness I
love so much AND still teach, I just won't have to grade the
homework!!!
I trained and studied and received my captains license and I spent the next
few years doing research. No not from a book or the web, I mean real
research. I have been captaining boat tours! I've captained everything from
coastal waters to back country creeks, from relaxing sailing adventures to
high speed airboats, from private beaches and tiny islands covered with
beautiful shells to the grandeur of the Everglades National Park. At first I
thought I was just having the time of my life working on the water but then I
realized that there was so much more I could offer than the basic one or two
hour tour can provide. I also found that there are so many people that are
looking for something beyond what a "regularly scheduled tour" can offer.
As it turns out my research has shown that there are MANY discriminating
visitors that are looking for a once in a lifetime adventure, a customized tour
at a price that is very close to what the others charge for a 'canned tour'. If
you have special interests like photography or research or just a passion to
see certain animals or plants you will likely be left disappointed by the
average tour. While I can't guarantee what nature will allow us to see, I can
promise to do my very best to customize the tour so you will not be
disappointed!

Come and join me, see why I am so passionate about the wildlife and
environment of southwest Florida's Gulf Coast and 10,000 Islands!.
